The one thing they share is the inlet. Why Port Moody exteriors fail differently
In most of the Lower Mainland, an exterior paint failure looks like chalking and fading on the sunny wall. In Port Moody it more often looks like a dark bloom on the shaded wall — mildew growing in the paint film, fed by damp air and heavy overhead shade from cedar and fir.
That changes the job in two ways. It changes the preparation, because mildew has to be washed off and killed rather than painted over — a coat of paint over live mildew simply feeds it from behind. And it changes the specification, because the topcoat is worth choosing for mildew resistance rather than just colour.
It also changes the honest answer about timing: a Port Moody exterior repaint wants the driest stretch of the year, and a wall that has not had a chance to dry out is not ready to paint no matter how well the weather looks on the day.
Moody Centre, Old Orchard and older-home carpentry
Port Moody was the original western terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway before the line was extended to Vancouver, and Moody Centre grew up around that. What survives from the early decades is modest, close-set housing with real character — and, generally, original trim profiles that stock mouldings won't match.
This is where carpentry beats replacement. Splicing a rotted section out of an original piece of casing and scarfing in new material to the same profile keeps a room looking like itself. Ripping the whole run out and putting up MDF is faster and cheaper and it never quite looks right afterwards.
Working in Suter Brook and Newport Village stratas
The newer core of Port Moody is townhouse and apartment strata, and that adds a layer to interior work that a detached house does not have. Anything touching common property — an exterior door, a patio surface, anything beyond the strata lot boundary — typically needs strata council approval before it starts, and buildings often restrict work hours and require elevator bookings for moving materials.

Why does the paint on my Port Moody house go mildewy so quickly?
Damp inlet air plus heavy shade. Mildew grows in the paint film on walls that never fully dry — usually the north and east elevations, and worst under overhanging trees. Usually, yes. Original casing and baseboard profiles from that period generally aren't sold as stock mouldings, so the approach is to splice — cut out the damaged section, and shape and fit new material to the existing profile so the run reads as one piece. It's slower than replacing the whole thing and it's the reason the room still looks original afterwards.
